This exquisite black and white photograph culled from the pages of SPORT magazine sees second baseman Jackie Robinson of the Brooklyn Dodgers sliding into second with the first hit by an African American in the All-Star game, a double to left center field. American League second baseman Cass Michaels, of the Chicago White Sox, takes a throw from Joe DiMaggio but tags Robinson too late to make the putout. Umpire Art Core calls the play in the first inning at Ebbets Field.
