The cover, drawn by John Cullen Murphy, depicts the magazine's choice for the top athletes of the previous decade: Basketball's Bill Russell of the University of San Francisco; golfer Ben Hogan; boxer Rocky Marciano; horse racing's Eddie Arcaro; swimmer Ford Konno; track's John Landy; Maurice Richard of the Montreal Canadiens; Ted Williams of the Boston Red Sox; Otto Graham of the Cleveland Browns; George Mikan of the Minneapolis Lakers; tennis star Jack Kramer; and Doak Walker of SMU's football team. The finished product, available framed or unframed, is inscribed "The SPORT Covers" with the date of publication. The cover itself is 11" wide by 14" high, and the total image area, including inscription, is 13" wide by 18" high. When matted and framed, the product is 18.5" wide by 22.75" high.
