Brooklyn Dodger pitcher Don Newcombe rears and fires to New York Yankees second baseman Billy Martin early in the first game of the 1955 World Series. Although the Dodgers would lose the first two games of the series, they would come back to capture their one and only World Series title in seven games. Behind Newcombe is Dodgers second baseman Don Zimmer. Photograph was taken by George Heyer of SPORT magazine. Image made from the 2 1/4" color transparency.
