This rare, stunning image is from a 1949 SPORT magazine shoot on the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame, focusing on coach Frank Leahey (highlighted here by his argyle socks). Irish won this particular afternoon at South Bend, and all the other afternoons too, finishing 10-0 to claim their 7th national championship.
